| Overview
All opioid treatment programs shall have
written policies and procedures to describe
how they provide emergency administration
of medications.
Accreditation Requirement(s)
To conform to these standards, the organization
must show evidence of the following:
- Written policies and procedures that
delineate how the program provides the
emergency administration of medication
for its clients
Implementation Tips
Some Implementation Tips provided, in part, by Robert Johnson at: www.accreditationnow.com.
- Programs/organizations need to define
the nature of an emergency situation.
- Example instances that would require
emergency administration of medications
include when there is a death in the person’s
family and they must travel to another
location, yet they are not eligible for
take-home medications; or when the client
is ill or recuperating from surgery and
unable to attend the clinic.
- Work schedules/business trips, religious
holidays, family illness, or some other
reason may temporarily prevent a client
from attending the clinic for their medication.
- These procedures can be described as
a separate policy or via the overall medication
administration policies, or in the take-home
medication policy.
